How the Project Came About

In 2010 a committee was formed to start fund-raising for a multi-user games area but after circulating a survey to everybody in the parish it became apparent that the main wish was to have a community tennis court with adjoining facilities for cricket, football and boules. In 2012 Tangley Parish Council were awarded £50,000 of Sport England funding and grants from TVBC and HPFA to build a tennis court, practise fence, cricket net, games area and small pavilion on the playing field at Tangley Parish Village Hall, Wildhern. In addition to external funding, a substantial sum of money was raised from personal pledges from the wonderful people of our parish.  The facilities are free for use by parishioners and the extended community and will enable families with children of all ages to engage in some form of activity on the playing field.  Coaching sessions and tennis nights are planned once the court is finished and the amenity will be a huge asset to the locality. The tennis court and adjoining games facilities were officially opened by the Rt Hon Sir George Young MP on Monday, 6th May 2013.
